Congratulations to Dandre Amos, Ngozi Ugochukwu, and Whitney Wasso for receiving a Certificate of Merit at the Awards for Excellence in the Arts Program. The event took place in the Terrace Theater of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, April 7th. The George Washington University’s Stephen Joel Trachtenberg Scholarship – Congratulations to Olivia Persons and David who were selected and honored on March 20, 2013 at Benjamin Banneker AHS. This scholarship provides academically talented students with a full, four-year scholarship covering tuition, room and board, books, and fees at the University! Kudos to the ensemble for garnering the Brian Cabe Award for Spirit, to Jovanne Santouse for receiving the Distinction in Acting Award, to Sylverline Atufu for receiving the Outstanding Commitment to Comedy Award, and to Parris Washington, Ashley Jones, Olive Nwosu, Lauren Robinson, Nelly Quintanilla, and Tariq Broadnax as the Chorus for Setting the Tone Award for Comedy. Congratulations to Blake Mosley and Courtney Thomas!! They defeated School Without Walls to win the DCIAA tennis doubles championship. This is Banneker's first doubles title. Congratulations to Tiffani Lewis for winning second place in the DCIAA city championship track & field meet on May 22nd at Spingarn High School in the girls' triple jump. Congratulations to Simone Chapman for winning first place in DCIAA city championship track & field meet on May 22nd at Spingarn High School. She won the girls long jump with a mark of 16 feet 5 inches.
Congratulations to Bianca Kersillius for winning the 2012 Joe Riley Youth Leadership Scholarship Award.
Congratulations to the Girls' JV Basketball Team for placing 2nd in the city!! Congratulations to Oni Crawford who won a Silver Key for her poetry in the annual Scholastics Writing Competition. Congratulations, too, to Cherrie Coachman who received an Honorable Mention citation for her collections of various writings.

Together Everyone Achieves More (TEAM) winner for the 2009-10 school
year. The TEAM program recognizes and rewards all staff
members in schools that make dramatic gains on the DC CAS. Congratulations to Simone Chapman for the 2011 DCIAA Girls LOng Jump City Champion. Simone jumped her personal best of 17'-3" at the City Championship meet at Dunbar High School on May 26th. Congratulations to Mahder Etuma, Michael Harris, Franklin Mason, Blake Mosley, and Courtney Thomas Jr. for their win against McKinley's Tennis Team. Congratulations to the 59 students who scored above the National Average on the National Latin Exam. (May 17) Congratulations to the following students who won the Library of Congress 3rd Annual Youth Oratorical Competition: 9th Grade: Emmanuel Lee - $25.00 award, 11th Grade: Nia Christian - $200.00 award, 2nd place Donae Owens - $50.00 award, 3rd Place: Desiree Samuel - $25.00 award. Each student also received a $25.00 gift card, a bag filled with school supplies and a folder with Library of Congress resources. This year's competition winners will represent the Library of Congress Chapter at the Regional Competition on Saturday, June 25th at 10.00 am at the National Oceanic $ Atmospheric Administration. Congratulations to Esohe Irabor: the Winner of the Metropolitan Police Department Essay Contest: "Why do you want to go to college and get a degree? What can a college degree do for you, your family and your community? Winners received a laptop and a book bag with assorted accessories and supplies.

Congratulations to Chinwe Obodo who placed 2nd in the State Finals of Poetry Out Loud on March 21, 2011. She recited three poems with great clarity - [what horror to awake at night] by Loraine Niedecker, "American Solitude" by Grace Schulman, and "The Author to Her Book" by Anne Bradstreet.
Congratulations to Banneker's It' Academic Team for winning second place at the Regional Science Bowl on Saturday, March 19, 2011. The team was represented by Deron Perkins, Thomas Temesgen, Nia Christian, Chika Adiele, Detrick Campbell, and Mr. Jomuad and Mr. Kabingue as coaches.
