Admissions are limited primarily to 9th graders; 10th graders who have taken the subjects of the prescribed Banneker curriculum may be admitted on a restricted basis.

The entire screening and selection process of applicants for the Benjamin Banneker Academic High School is the responsibility of a Selection Committee. Final determination of accepted applicants will be made after a personal interview. Applicants will be notified of approval or denial.

Upon admission, students must undergo placement testing in major disciplines. Entering students must also attend the Benjamin Banneker Summer Institute where students will become "Achievers" while preparing for the rigors of the Banneker program.
