The District of Columbia Public Schools encourages partnerships between
schools and the community. Such arrangements provide students with
learning opportunities outside the classroom, a broader vision of the
world, and an awareness of an interaction with positive role models.
The partnership between Howard University and the
Benjamin Banneker Academic High School offers students numerous
benefits that include:
- Mentoring and internship programs through the Department of
Surgery, Howard University Hospital;
- Work experience in the university environment through the
Community Laboratory Volunteer Program;
- Computer Technical assistance provided by the Department of
Engineering and Computer Sciences;
- Summer enrichment experiences through the partnership with
Bio-Medical Institute and the College of Arts and Sciences;
- Participation in Convocation, seminars, films, and other special
events.
- Opportunities for student teacher experiences at Banneker for
Howard University students.
- Continuous contact with a university that has produced some of
the most outstanding citizens of this community, the country, and
the world.
- Health Professions Recruitment Exposure Program through the
College of Medicine provides hands-on anatomy laboratory
experiences.
