PTA Meeting will be held on September 14, 2011 at 6:00-7:00pm in the Auditorium.

Minutes and Updates

Ms. Berger greeted the parents and teachers and spoke about the success of the events that the PTA has hosted thus far. The reception for the Open House (held November 6, 2010) was excellent, with 190 families in attendance.  This year Open House wild be on November 5, 2011 @ 9:00- NOON.

The PTA President, Kimberley Pinkney, introduced the board members: Storm Clark-Terrell, Vice President; Inthia Bowman, Secretary; Meryl Williams, Treasurer. All other parents, students and teachers in attendance also introduced themselves.

Phone and email trees, as well as membership forms were distributed for those in attendance. The goal is for participation as a whole and these forms and information will help us communicate with one another in a more timely fashion and we need parent participation as this is an ongoing process. The hope is that there will be a parent representative for each grade who will address concerns specifically related to their class. Together we will reinforce the things that are being done well. Additionally, the PTA requests that all parents commit to 2 hours of volunteer work each month, especially for (though not limited to), upcoming games. The web link on the school’s website will be updated often, to include among other things, the minutes from PTA meetings. The PTA also encourages parents to become members of the PTA - dues are $25.

Meryl Williams, the treasurer, gave her report. The PTA has raised $2,780 from a combination of events, including the Silent Auction, donations, and the concession stand which was open during the girls’ volleyball games. The Silent Auction proceeds benefit the PTA and future activities. Mr. Moore (Science Dept.) had requested assistance for use in the Science Fair.

A volunteer sign-up sheet was distributed for upcoming sporting events in an effort to protect our children and make a visible parent presence at away games especially. There was an incident at a game earlier this year and we would like to minimize the likelihood of future negative incidents. The schedule will also be posted on the website but it is important to check for updates as changes sometimes occur. The school can always be contacted for the most recent information concerning that day’s schedule.
