Parent/Teacher Concerns
Ms. Levknecht, from the World Languages department, indicated that she
would like the PTA’s support with International Night on December. This event, through ticket sales, helps students (in the form
of defraying the cost travel and related expenses, stipend, interview
process, etc.) who study abroad. The PTA’s help is needed for basic
set-up. There will be dishes representing various countries, a parade of
nations, singing, dancing and a skit. The ticket prices for the event
One parent raised the concern and others followed suit about cell
phone security issues because some phones were stolen from one of
the stores. The goal for us is to have a safe place where our students
can store their phones. There is the potential for a patent on a storage
device designed by students. But Ms. Berger stated that there are
courtesy phones all over the school for student use should the need
arise. Further, much valuable class time was lost when students were
allowed to have phones in the school. Collectively, we are working on an
option to find another way to safely store students’ phones.
There was a concern about a cookie dough fundraiser where it was thought
that selling at least five units was mandatory. There are no mandatory
fundraisers, though we always like students to participate.
The senior dues are payable to Banneker AHS.
The principal’s report was distributed and reviewed.
The PTA appreciates all of the new faces at the meeting and is looking
forward to continued parent participation, support, and involvement in
our efforts as the school year continues. We want to hear from you. If
meeting schedules are not convenient, let us know.
The PTA also greatly appreciates Mr. Ductai Nguyen’s help with the
website, keeping us abreast of PTA-related information and updates.
